After the merrymaking and celebrations of the holidays, the New Year brings a welcome opportunity to jumpstart fresh thinking and revamp existing routines. Resolutions tend to focus on food and fitness, but there are so many more opportunities for our pledges of self-betterment. Namely, how we dress!

We often make our clothing choices based on, well, what feels as comfortable as an old shoe. Seize 2017 as an occasion to get out of your fashion comfort zone. Here are three style resolutions for the New Year to provide a bit of inspiration.

Dress for the body you have today, not tomorrow. Women have a tendency to postpone purchasing new clothes for when they’re “just a few sizes slimmer” or “that problem area is toned a bit more.” Let 2017 be your year of body positivity!

Colorado Mills has great choices for women of all sizes and shapes. At Torrid, this floral print georgette high neck maxi dress paired with a black leather jacket provides a stunning silhouette. To its right, the striped surplice top is effortlessly chic with flattering black stripes. Wear it to the office or dress it down with distressed denim as pictured here.

Stop by Lane Bryant Outlet for trendy looks such as this merlot cold-shoulder dress with ruched sleeves. The metallic belt draws the eye in while the blush scarf softens the ensemble.

Highlight your curves with this gray cinched athleisure jacket from Loft Outlet by wearing it over a peach blouse to brighten your face this winter.

Try more trends. I sometimes hesitate to try new trends if I don’t feel “cool enough” to experiment with the latest fashion craze. This year, I plan to tryout more style trends, even on the days I may not be sure I can pull it off.

For example, sneakers are experiencing a 2017 renaissance as a fashionable footwear choice no matter the occasion! Guess Factory Outlet at Colorado Mills has shoe glam to step up your style game like these low-top, quilted, lace-up sneakers.

Baroque-style earrings are in this year with trends favoring large gemstones and extravagant details. Francesca’s, newly opened at Colorado Mills, specializes in fashion-forward looks such as these on-trend earrings. Notice the eggplant fringe!

Don’t be basic. Humans are creatures of habit. We tend to be attracted to, and ultimately purchase, clothing in our go-to colors such as black, white and neutrals. Give yourself permission to expand the colors in your closet by purposely choosing bold, bright colors or fun prints and patterns.

This cobalt blue dress accessorized with a long gold drop necklace at Colorado Mills’ Ann Taylor Factory Store exudes classic confidence without being ostentatious. Equally, the shirtdress to its right borrows from classic styling with a modern pattern, and a nod to the fresh greenery shades we will see a lot this year due to Pantone’s color of the year.

Think of pink as the new beige with this faux leather scuba jacket with ribbed knit details from Maurices. Go bold and bright!

We often start January feeling motivated by new resolutions, but sometimes lose motivation as the year progresses. What I love about these style resolutions is that we can stay on track throughout the year as fashion seasons change. So, remember, embrace body positivity, try more trends, and branch out from your basics.
